Elegant St. Paul Catholic Church Wedding

She was running late. Morning preparations took longer than expected. “Mass waits for no one,” she told her mom as her makeup stylist put on the finishing touches. We got to the church 2 minutes behind schedule. In a hurry to make up for lost time, she decided to move the prayer with her groom to after the ceremony. As she stepped into place about to walk down the aisle, we were stopped. It was Collin. He really wanted to pray with his bride-to-be before the ceremony. So we dove into action, leading Kaitlynn through a door at the back of a building and putting her behind a small dividing wall. Then we grabbed Collin.

“Are you nervous?” I asked him.

“Not at all.”

I brought Collin up to the other side of the small wall, only a foot from his bride to be.

“Hey, baby” he said to Kaitlynn with a smile on his face and tears in his eyes. He was giddy in anticipation.

They grasped hands. And in that very moment, nothing else mattered. It didn’t matter that they were 10 minutes late or that Kaitlynn was standing on rocks. All that mattered was this moment.

“Hi, God”, Kaitlynn said with a smile. She and Collin spoke to God with ease as they expressed their excitement about their day. Together, they recited a prayer that Kaitlynn told me they say together every night. With one last squeeze of their hands, Collin retreated up the steps and into the church to await Katilynn’s walk down the aisle. It was maybe 7 minutes total, but we moved forward with a little less stress and a little more presence.

It’s funny how life works out. A year ago we decided to give away a standard wedding photography package to the lucky winner of a random drawing. We drew Collin and Kaitlynn’s names. After meeting them on IU’s campus, at the exact spot they got engaged (we knew it was the exact spot because there was still candle wax on the steps of Showalter Fountain from the candles Collin lit when he proposed), we knew that everything was going to be perfect.

This weekend we were fortunate enough to photograph their big day. According to their friends and family, these highschool sweethearts are the picture of love and dedication. We heard speech after speech testifying to the strength of their relationship and I’ll admit, we got teary eyed. The fact that Kailtlynn puts up with Collin’s “Creepy Laugh” really sums it up.

Kaitlynn and Collin, thank you so much for allowing us to serve you on your wedding day. It was an incredible experience to be able to capture such a special ceremony. You two have always treated us like friends, which made our jobs very easy and enjoyable! Hopefully we can get together soon now that you are Mr. and Mrs. and try all the beers. In the meantime, take a look at some of our favorite photos from the day as you relax in the sun!
