Not all friendships are created equal. Throughout our lives, we meet countless people. A lot of them will become acquaintances or even friends. Of those that become friends, only a fraction will still be close to us years down the road. I don’t believe this is a bad thing though, not at all. Life happens. People drift in and out of our lives as situations change without malice or ill-will. But those friends who do stick around -- the ones that pick up the friendship right where it left off even after life happens -- they are the true friends. Mark is a true friend of mine and I am sure his wife, Laura, will be too.
It feels like I met Mark decades ago, even though it has only been about 8 years. We met in high school after Mark moved to Bloomington. Since we both signed up for the same “nerdy” advanced courses, we got to know each other well. Some of my favorite memories from high school were created with Mark and our goofy group of friends. I will never forget the nights we spent studying at the college library until after midnight, only to get cookies from Baked of Bloomington before heading home. Or the time we had a cookout on a charcoal grill in the parking lot of our high-school to celebrate the last day of senior year. Best of all were the hours we spent playing video games with our good friend Alek in the evenings after school.
Mark and Laura, thank you for reaching out to us to photograph your “engagement”. I know it’s been a while since we’ve had a chance to get together and catch up, but we truly had an amazing time visiting with you two. I cannot describe how excited Grace and I are that you are moving to the Bloomington area. After spending only one evening together, it’s obvious you guys are great together.
For now, enjoy this preview of your engagement photos. Hopefully, we can begin making new memories together soon!
